Sizzle Pie p/b Veloforma's Kovalcik and Urbanski Bring Home National Gold and Bronze

Zak Kovalcik's National Championship gold and jersey. ©Zak KovalcikZak Kovalcik of the Sizzle Pie p/b Veloforma team won the Elite Omnium Track National Championships in South Carolina this past weekend. On Friday he won the flying lap and elimination races, then Kovalcik used a winning kilometer time trial effort to secure the overall victory. Teammate Al Urbanski  joined Kovalcik on the podium, snagging third, with Stefan Rothe (Tulsa Tough) in second.

Great job by Zak and Al, and more terrific results for the all-business carbon Veloforma Pista Pro track bike!

Versatility. And Winning!

The transition between high-speed crit and uphill TT was an easy one. The bike setup, with Hed Stingers, is identical. Add LS skinsuit, Castelli aero gloves & shoe covers and a c.1996 aero helmet (extra credit for goofy sticker) and: Presto! ©VeloformaThere's been a whole bunch of high-speed race action locally here in Portland, Oregon, and, naturally, Veloforma's bikes and sponsored athletes have figured prominently. Anna Christainsen of the Ironclad Performance Wear team won the Franz Bakery Criterium in the Elite women's field last weekend in impressive fashion – she attacked the field midway through the race and consistently extended her lead all the way to the line over the hilly course. The race promoters ran the event as a points race, with every lap worth both points towards the overall result and $5. Christiansen had the event wrapped up with 10 laps to go, but she kept on plugging – and picking up some extra dough along the way.

Veloforma's Josh Liberles, who races for the HPC-RPM Mortgage team, did an unusual back-to-back double on his Veloforma Strada SLR carbon road bike. On Saturday he carved through the high-speed corners in the Franz Bakery Criterium to take a well-earned fourth place before toeing the line on the same rig for the Larch Mountain Hillclimb time trial the very next day.

Crit, Track and Stage Race Glory: Sizzle Pie-Veloforma, Ironclad & Paceline Projects-Veloforma Rocket through July

Capt Dave coaches Ironclad's Jenn Levo on race-winning tactics. ©Ironcladcycling.comA gaggle of super-talented Veloforma athletes have been rocking the results boards in everywhere from the velodrome in Seattle to NRC stage races to national-caliber crits. Along the way, these racers have sent in glowing reports on their Veloforma ridea and confirmed the versatility of the carbon Strada SLR road and Pista Pro track bikes that have succesfully translated their power to fast forward motion. We're super proud to work with these partners. In case you missed these blurs of speed, here's a quick update:

Stage Race Sensation
Ironclad's Brianna Walle recruited a couple of Elite Seattle riders to join her on a composite team for the National Road Calendar (NRC) Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend, Oregon. The six-day stage race wrapped up yesterday (Sunday, July 22nd), and after many miles and some injuries, by the end she was the lone Ironclad-Yakima racer left standing.

Volcano Racing: Mount Tabor Wraps Up with Series and Stage Wins

The Sizzle Pie / Veloforma fivesome races for Richardson at Tabor.Adrian Richardson held the Elite men's series lead into the River City Mount Tabor Series finale last Wednesday, and his Sizzle Pie p/b Veloforma team showed up en masse to lend a hand. Richardson's third place on the night was enough to claim the overall (and Veloforma's own Josh Liberles of the HPC/RPM Mortgage team finished just behind for the night, in fourth).

Brianna Walle (Ironclad Performance Wear) used her impressive finishing speed to stake her own claim, propelling her Veloforma to the win in the dash to the line.

Six Wednesday circuit races make up the series, and challenging 1.3-mile course takes place on Mount Tabor, the dormant volcano in southeast Portland. Josh wrote a profile of the historic venue for BikePortland as area racers prepared for an astounding 60th year of Tabor racing. Read more about that here, and check out Richardson's series report below:

National Jerseys, Track Wins, Stage Racing, 6-Hour MTBs: A Weekend of Veloforma Racing

Brent Emoff and Al Urbanski win the Alpenrose Six-Day and FIAC National Championship. ©Jennifer AnnIt's been a busy week for us at Veloforma, as well as for our athletes. We had top-notch athletes out piloting our carbon bikes for fast velodrome loops, long Mt Hood off-road laps, and over everything from mountain passes to downtown criterium courses at the Baker City Classic. Too bad there weren't any cyclocross races in the Northwest this past weekend, or we'd surely have impressive results coming in across the boards.

Brent Emoff and Al Urbanski of Sizzle Pie Cycling p/b Veloforma led the way, taking their Pista Pro bikes to the overall win in the Alpenrose Six Day and claiming FIAC National Championship jerseys in the process. Anna Christiansen (Ironclad Performance Wear) relied on her explosive uphill power to snag a close second place on the Baker City Classic's queen stage finale in the Elite Women's race, good enough for fourth overall. Anna Grace Christiansen drills it up Dooley Mountain for second place. ©Megan DorrahAnd on the dirty side, Brian Gerow and Megan Chinburg piloted Veloforma Rival Two9Rs to victory in the two person co-ed division of the Six Hours of Mount Hood.

Megan Chinburg and Brian Gerow top the podium at 6 Hours of Mt HoodAnd lest you think the Veloforma staff is made up of out-of-touch business folk, we were out there mixing it up too. Veloforma's founder and owner, Mark Duff, had impressive rides in the Alpenrose Six-Day, good enough for third overall in the Men's B race, and Josh Liberles, our communications guy, made up for a heartbreaking mechanical (and subsequent 35-mile chase) on the first stage in Baker City with incredible redemption the next day via a fifth place in the time trial and lapping the field that night for fourth place in the criterium in the Elite race.
